Les Paturage - Established in 2013
This vineyard consists of 32, 160-meter-long rows of vines in a VSP trellis running from East to West. This long northerly aspect block enjoys a good dose of sun from sunrise to sun set. Although probably the most exposed to wind, the added benefit is it suffers from relatively low disease pressure due to it natural air flow. The vines are 2 meters apart and crop well below 2 tonnes to the acre, although we will see this increase a little as the vines become adolescent.
Gamay – BGW19 - 1.8 acres
As the cousin grape to Pinot noir, Gamay (aka Gamay Noir) is a light-bodied red wine that’s similar to Pinot noir. Grown primarily in Beaujolais, next to Burgundy in France, it made sense this grape variety would flourish in the Macedon Ranges. Gamay is a very vigorous vine which tends to be unruly and much more difficult to tame than Pinot noir. Due to the vigour of the vines around 1/3 of the fruit is dropped to help with consistency of ripening and the development of flavours. Lyons Will Estate is one of only 2 wineries producing Gamay in the Macedon Ranges.
Riesling - 1.8acres Pewsey Vale, G2V2
The Riesling Block, planted in November 2013 and consists of two clone varietals, Pewsey Vale & D2V2. Our first harvest from this block was 2017. What makes this grape so fun to work with is its versatility. It seems to grow beautifully in the region, producing wines with texture, complexity and high levels of natural acidity. Riesling is said to express its origin, or vineyard better than any other grape variety.
