Lyons Will is a 70-acre property located at the base of the Cobaw Ranges in Lancefield, 554 metres above sea level. With 5 hectares under vine the vineyard consists of Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Gamay.
The microclimate of the estate is unique in the sense that it experiences bitterly cold winters, and dry hot summers. Generally the temperatures vary from -3 degrees in winter to 41 degrees in summer, with winds prevailing from the north. Rainfall can vary but in general our site is relative dry with as little as 30mm per month. Generally the wettest months are around June, July and August with an average of 70mm per month, and the driest tending to be January, March and April. We often experience late summer rains in February.
The management of the vineyard is completely under the guidance of the proprietors with a concerted effort toward sustainability. All vineyards are hand pruned and hand harvested, with a concerted effort in utilizing livestock for weed control and fertilisation.
The unique environment and soils play a huge part in Lyons Will wines. All wines are made from exclusively estate grown fruit with minimal intervention in the winery to ensure the wines speak of the site in which they are grown.
We have three vineyards located on the one estate.
