A Pinot Extension - 10/10/2014
In an effort to give us a little more diversity we have decided to extend our Pinot Noir block by another 1.5acres. Its not much but we are hoping it will provide that little more fruit that will give us a fuller drink. At the moment we have Pinot Noir clones D5V12, D4v2 and 115 planted, most of which are around 18 years old however we have decided to increase our 115 block and include a new clone, MV6.
Clone MV6 is very common in Victoria and there is good reason, its a dense fruit which tends to be full bodied and have more tannin's. Plummyness and an overall good palate structure is why its a good grape to create a stronger backbone to the wine.
Originates from Dijon, France however is the most common Pinot Noir clone in Australia and in general is a little later in ripening.
Clone 115 is all about dark fruit characters, cherries, plums, blackberries et al. Not as big on the tannins and a little plain alone, its makes for a perfect partner among other company. Originates from Pommard, France.
